privacy policy

ari is a text-native personal finance management and financial education service built by Paratus Health, Corp. in Palo Alto, California. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your personal information when you use our SMS-based service.

Because ari handles bank-linked financial information, we treat this policy as our financial privacy notice under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and applicable state financial privacy laws.

Information we collect

Contact Information: Your phone number and SMS message history with ari.

Financial Data: When you connect bank accounts via Plaid, we receive transaction history, account balances, account names, routing numbers, and related metadata. This data is necessary to provide personal finance management and general financial education tailored to your accounts.

Usage Data: Message timestamps, response patterns, feature usage, and technical logs for service improvement and debugging.

Device Information: Limited technical information about your device and carrier for SMS delivery optimization.

How we use your information

Personal finance management: Analyze your spending patterns, surface bills and recurring charges, track savings goals, and provide general personal finance education via SMS.

Service operations: Send transactional messages, account alerts, security notifications, and reminders.

AI processing: Your messages and connected-account data are processed by automated artificial intelligence systems (currently Claude by Anthropic) to generate responses. Anthropic does not retain your data for model training under our API terms. ari’s responses are not reviewed by a human advisor before being sent to you.

Service improvement: We use aggregated and de-identified usage data to improve features, model behavior, and reliability.

Legal compliance: Meet regulatory requirements, prevent fraud, and respond to lawful legal requests.

What we do NOT use your data for: We do not use your financial data, SMS content, or mobile information for advertising, marketing by third parties, or sale to data brokers.

Information sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Service Providers: We share data with essential service providers including: Plaid (financial data aggregation), Anthropic (AI responses), SMS infrastructure providers (message delivery), and cloud hosting providers (data storage). All providers are bound by strict confidentiality agreements.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Data security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest, secure data centers, access controls, and regular security audits. Bank access tokens are encrypted using AES-256 encryption.

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. Message history is retained for service continuity. Financial data is retained while your accounts remain connected and for 7 years after disconnection for regulatory compliance.

Your rights

Access & Correction: Request access to your personal information and correct inaccuracies by emailing support@ari-usa.com.

Deletion: Text ari “delete my account” or email support@ari-usa.com. We will delete your information within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.

SMS Opt-Out: Reply STOP to any ari message to unsubscribe. You’ll receive one confirmation message. Reply START to re-enable.

California Residents: Under CCPA, you have additional rights to know what personal information we collect, delete personal information, and opt-out of sales (though we don’t sell data).

SMS terms

By texting ari, you expressly consent to receive automated text messages from us at the number you text from, including transactional and informational messages. Message frequency varies based on your activity. Message & data rates may apply depending on your carrier plan.

Mobile information. We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subprocessors that deliver our service (such as our SMS infrastructure provider) is excluded from this prohibition.

Opt-out and help. Reply STOP to any ari message to unsubscribe; you will receive one confirmation. Reply START to re-enable. Reply HELP for support. Supported carriers: all major US carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Financial data services powered by Plaid

Consent to Data Sharing: By connecting your bank account to ari, you expressly consent and authorize ari and our third-party service provider, Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”), to access, retrieve, and use your financial account information for the purpose of providing ari’s personal finance management and education services.

How Plaid Works: Plaid is a financial technology company that facilitates connections between financial institutions and applications like ari. When you connect an account, you grant ari and Plaid the right, power, and authority to access and transmit your personal and financial information from your financial institution.

Data Collected by Plaid: Plaid may collect and process the following information from your connected accounts: account balances, transaction history, account holder names, account and routing numbers, and other account metadata necessary for our service.

Your Plaid Rights: You can disconnect accounts at my.plaid.com, request access to your data, request deletion (subject to legal retention), and update inaccurate financial data at any time.

Revoking Consent: You may revoke your consent for data sharing at any time by disconnecting your accounts through Plaid’s portal or by emailing support@ari-usa.com. Note that revoking consent will limit ari’s ability to provide personalized financial coaching.

SMS data protection

Unlike your financial data, your SMS conversations with ari are not shared with Plaid or other third parties except our SMS infrastructure providers (for message delivery). Your text message data and consent information receive additional privacy protections and are kept separate from financial data sharing arrangements.
